Since its inception in 2012, the Stamford Hooks for Heroes event, it has raised over $30,000 for U.S. veterans.  Even a very windy and rainy 2015 tournament could not deter over 150 competitors, including some 40 wounded veterans and their families, for a day of fun and fishing on the Long Island Sound.

This year there will be two competing fishing categories: largest bluefish and largest bass by weight. The largest bass caught in the 2015 tournament was 36 pounds.  The event will also include a live band, a military flyover, a water cannon salute by the Stamford Fire and Police Departments and the participation of active members of the CT National Guard 1048th Division and the U.S Coast Guard.

“As a veteran myself, I am proud of what the Halloween Yacht Club membership has done in helping wounded veterans. Over the past five years the event has grown more popular and 2016 will be better than any before it, with 100% of the proceeds going to veterans charities,” said Pat Buzzeo, chairman of the Stamford Hooks for Heroes fishing tournament, hosted by the Halloween Yacht Club.

All proceeds benefit Operation Gift Cards which provides Post Exchange Service gift cards, used to purchase basic necessities, for service men and women and their families receiving treatment at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Hospital.
